Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving!  What wonderful weather for holiday traveling too!  The Broeker family traveled to Kearney this year to be with Andy's family...his parents (Sue and Tracy) and his sister Carla and her two children...Zack and Kati.  It was a nice meal with using the new modern turkey fryer.  I think it tastes the same as it does coming out of the oven, so it doesn't really matter to me.  The only difference is the amount of time it takes...this way was only 40 minutes.  The other way would have been for Sue to get up at 5:00 to get the turkey done.  I am sure she enjoyed the sleep instead!
Hope you and yours had a wonderful Thanksgiving with time for family and friends!

#2 Movie & Just Me

I have finally gotten around to working on my 40 by 40 project by seeing a movie by myself.  I've never done it before and now I can say I have.  I was one of nineteen people in the theatre last night for a late night showing of Twilight.  It was pretty weird saying, "One ticket, please."  The guy selling the tickets said, "One adult?"  I was first thinking he thought I was buying for my daughter since it's a teen flick, and then I was hopeful about the second thought was that I was so "youthful looking" that he needed clarification.  I really doubt it's either one, just part of the ticket selling lingo.

However, Twilight was better than I expected.  I had very low expectations of the movie since it received 2 1/2 stars in the Lincoln paper, but it was good.  The book still is a whole lot better!  I did think that the Edward Cullen character had a slight Edward Scissorhands appeal about him, but he's still good looking.  The movie did follow the book as well as expected for the book being over 500 pages long.  I did think a few of the details that needed to be in the movie were left Bella's reaction to the smell of her own blood since I know that it might pose a problem to her becoming a vampire later in the other books.  Anyway, if you haven't seen the movie yet, I'd highly recommend the book first.  Such a great love story!!!

Lisa's 40th Birthday

Our neighbor and my GNO (Girls' Night Out) friend, Lisa Ford, celebrated her 40th birthday Saturday at Brewsky's.  Her husband, Steve, surprised her with a secret (not quite) celebration for her with many of her family and friends attending.  Lisa thought she was going out to eat with her family at a mexican restaurant downtown, but much to her "surprise" she ended up at a bar.  Lisa received many gifts, well wishes and free drinks!  I just wondered how she felt the next morning???

New Nephew

Today we ventured to Omaha to meet our new nephew/cousin Xander.  My brother Todd and his wife Sarah had their first baby yesterday (November 21st) at 8:15 am.  Xander Douglas weighed 9 lbs. 9 oz. and was almost 20 inches long.  He's a chunk, but very cute!  It's always fun seeing first time parents....Todd very excited and full of baby details and Sarah looking like she needed some rest.  I can totally sympathize with her since she had him via c-section.

When Grant saw the baby he said, "brother" instead of baby.  The picture above was taken right before Grant kissed his tiny head.  After that picture, Grant was more interested in Sarah's mechanical bed than the baby.  Go figure!

Tyler turns twelve

Tyler had a small, but nice little birthday party last night.  He invited three friends (all J names) to a sleep over.  We ordered Valentino's pizza for dinner and then I took the four kids across town to the Cooper YMCA for swimming.  It was good cheap fun!  They were able to swim for three hours and I was able to read my new favorite book....Twilight!  We left the Y around 10:00 to come home to eating junk food, playing the Wii and watching movies.  I have no clue how much sleep anyone got, but they were all up by 7:00 for Andy's egg and bacon biscuit dish.  Which I should post because it's very easy and very tasty!  The Broekers are all done with birthdays for a while, now on to Christmas!

Before and After

Madison's bedroom is finally done!  Hooray!  After many months of deliberation on paints and patterns, we have a finished room.  Madison got the cutest bedding for her birthday in September from Pottery Barn (on clearance, love that!) and we knew that her cute, little girl, pink butterfly room, just wouldn't do.  It was time for a change and the need for a more sophisticated looking bedroom.  I first wanted to paint stripes at the bottom, but I knew I didn't have the patience or the time for all the taping and paint changes it took.  So, three weeks ago I settled on plain, white walls. I figured it would make the room look clean, which it didn't.  It made everything else in the room look dirty (especially the ceiling) and quite boring.  Andy was less than thrilled to help me paint the room all over again, which took all of last weekend and this weekend.  We used a lime green paint for the top and turquoise for the bottom with a white chair rail in between.  Wow!  What a fun looking bedroom!  Hope you like it, Miss Maddy!

Forty by Forty

This is officially my first blog......the first thing I can say that I've done on my new list of "Forty by Forty".  It sounds like a carpenter word (40" x 40"), but I am trying to come up with forty things that I've never done and will do by the age of forty.  I now have 23 months to do it all in, but I think I can do it.  Okay...I know I can do it!  All for the sake of scrapbooking, right?!  I think the next maybe text messaging.  I am so "old school", huh?  I will have to post my other 39 things over the next two years.  Maybe you can give me some ideas too. I think donating blood will be on the list.  I hope I survive that one because getting my finger poked for an iron test is a huge deal for me....yikes!
