The Iowa State Fair starts next week and I am so wanting to attend. I've never been to our neighboring state's fair and I think it's about time. I've heard it's a fantastic fair to see! Also, I'm still mad that our State Fair moved away from Lincoln and down the road about two hours away, so I'm boycotting that one for sure.
Why do I enjoy attending the fair, you may ask? Well, I'm really not into seeing farm animals (induces allergies) or anything agricultural related, but I do like the parades, vendors, demonstrations, people watching, concerts and of course.....Fair Food!

Holy Cow, sign me up!! We love to go to the fair. Ours is the Central Washington State Fair and my husband and I go every year.
We love it all, the lights, food, atmosphere, shows, the list goes on!
Have fun I'll be thinking of you!
A pretzel on a stick? Though it sounds like take any food, put it on a stick, deep fry it and it is fair food. My favorite summer food :od
A friend of mine sells 10,000+ bars of soap during the Iowa State Fair. She's been vending there for years now. She always says it's a HUGE fair and great fun!
The Pineapple on a Stick looks like a great place to start for me! :-)
The Funtastick Pork on-a-stick sounds downright nasty.
Deep fried dough is the best.
Have a good time.
If the State fair didn't have sticks, they wouldn't have no idea what to do with them there vittles. deep-fried candy bars sure sound tantalizing, don't they?
Anything candy or chocolate related! Do funnel cakes come on a stick? Love those the most! :)
Twinkie log on a stick sounds interesting, but I am partial to corn dogs and frozen chocolate covered bananas.
Such a traditionalist here....I gotta stick to the yummy corndog. And I do love me a funnel cake (to share with the kids) but it really needs to be on a plate piled high with some sweet and drippy toppings! :-)
I ate at the County Fair yesterday. I had an Indian Taco, those curly potato things and a funnel cake. The kids also ate corn dogs, peach lemonade and cotton candy. I may go back later in the week to get a piece of pie from the Methodist ladies.
What food did you choose?! I LOVE those hand-dipped vanilla ice cream slabs they made at the State Fair! Lucy and I volunteered in the 4H concessions at the County Fair last week and the walking tacos were the inspiration for Friday supper!
My favorite food on a stick is the salad on a stick. It is just simple and refreshing after all the junk you eat at the fair. My husband loves the porkchop on a stick.
My 12 year old son's fav is the Chicken Club on a stick
8 year old daughter - Hardboild egg on a stick
6 year old daughter - Hot dog on a stick (she is silly, we have to ask for a non-breaded corn dog)
3 year old son - Cheese on a stick.
